|Jean Harvey was born in Baltimore, Maryland, USA. She lived in many countries including Egypt , Cyprus, Tunisia, Morocco and Nigeria before moving to London with her four children in 1974. In the 1980s she co-authored five novels under the pen name of Laura Gilmor Bennett and Justine Harlowe.
In 1991 Jean returned to painting full time and since then has lived in several countries. For two and a half years she lived in Mexico. She was captivated by the Mexican people and painted a number of portraits as she continues to do either by commission or because she is intrigued by a particular individual. Her time in Mexico was followed by a year and a half in Villefrance-sur-Mer near Nice in the South of France. In recent years she has found much inspiration in the Greek Islands, especially Patmos and Santorini.
